Submissions to the project

Waywords and Meansigns is a participatory project. We accept as well as solicit original contributions to the project via email; therefore, we collect your submitted audio. We also post contributor biographies, photographs, and other relevant information on our website, all of which is submitted by you.

Contact forms

You can join our mailing list via the contact form on our “Contact” page. By signing up for our mailing list, you submit your name and email address, and an option comment or message. You can request to be removed from the mailing list at any time. If your comment requires a response, we may also use your email address to reply. We do not share your name or email address without your permission.

Cookies & analytics

We may collect information as you navigate through the site, or if you choose to complete forms on the site where information is requested. We use Google Analytics to collect aggregate user information. (To opt out of Google Analytics tracking for certain browsers, visit Google Analytics.) We use JetPack for necessary site functionality and optimizing user experience. We do not share user information with any third parties.

If you leave a comment on any of our blog posts, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Who we share your data with & where we send your data

If you become a contributor to the Waywords and Meansigns project, we will share your submitted audio as well as biography, photograph, and other relevant information (all of which is submitted by you). This content is all shared publicly and with your consent. We share this information via our website and on www.archive.org, where our audio is hosted. By submitting audio to our project, you agree to Creative Commons licensing of Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 4.0 International Usage.

If you comment on any blog posts, your comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

How long we retain your data

If you contribute to the Waywords and Meansigns project, we retain your submission and all accompanying content indefinitely. If you use one of our contact forms, any associated data or metadata is retained indefinitely.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have contributed, joined our mailing list, or left comments on this website, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we remove your contribution of audio, and any associated content, at any time. This does not include, however, any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
