Devonian Phil Minton, an intriguing extended vocalist who “always wanted to yodel as a kid”. He combined anarcho-socialism, a love of literature, and an inveterate need to extend vocals beyond the normal range into a realm beyond reason, beyond Dada. His vocal palette includes post-punk (“Concrete”), jazz improv, hillbilly ballads, James Joyce, John Cage avant-garde coloratura, peasant revolt ballads, whistling, screaming, gasping, overtones, sailor voices, and “Welsh yodeling”.
Phil Minton contributed to the Opendoor Edition of Waywords and Meansigns in 2017, recording page 273 line 1 through line 28.
